Ford’s Romeo, Michigan plant – which builds the 4.6L V8 engine for the Ford Mustang and F150 – hit a milestone last month… 10,000,000 engines! Yes, that’s 10 million of these modular powerplants for Ford’s (arguably) most popular eight cylinder engine ever.
For a bit of history: this facility was originally a tractor manufacturing plantConverted from a tractor manufacturing plant, converted by Ford and produced it’s engine eighteen years ago way back in 1990. They only build V8 Ford engines and have about 1,000 employees. Tget also manufacture most of the parts themselves, including major components like the block ,camshafts, cylinder heads and connecting rods. The Romeo plant builds two enine – three variations of 4.6-litre V8 engines which account for the majority of builds and a smaller, high end line of 5.4-litre supercharged engines for the Shelby GT500.
Funny enough, number 10,000,000 went to a 2010 Mustang GT which was to be shipped to and installed at the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock. The plant also supplies plants in Ontario, Kentucky, Ohio and Missouri; and for other Ford vehicles including the Econoline van, Explorer, Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria.
